What Is CEREC?

Maybe you’ve seen the term “CEREC” but wondered what it meant. It stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. At Belle City Family Dentistry, we feature this technology to mill restorations such as crowns. CEREC is used along with CAD/CAM, which stands for computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing.

The Convenience of On-Site CEREC

Illustration of dental crownUsing CEREC CAD/CAM computer guided milling technology, Dr. Olesen can create tooth restorations quickly and effectively in one appointment instead of the 2 or 3 visits previously required for ceramic restorations.  Your crown will be milled from a solid block of ceramic to our exact specifications.

Another benefit of getting a same-day dental crown is that we can preserve more of your natural tooth. That’s not the case with getting a crown using the traditional method. With that approach, more of your tooth needs to be removed.

Say Goodbye to Gooey Impressions

Conventional dental crowns require the use of impression trays that capture the form and alignment of your teeth. These silicon trays can be messy, cumbersome and uncomfortable. But with same-day dental crowns, digital tools eliminate the need for these trays as your dentist crafts your new crown.

Ensuring a Great Fit

When your crown is ready, we will check the fit and make sure it is sitting comfortably and securely on your tooth. Any adjustments will be made at this time. When Dr. Olesen is satisfied with the crown, it will be permanently bonded to your tooth.
